CONGRATULATIONS!
Waiting in agony I got an email Monday, February 24th 2020, about this fellowship. I have applied for the third time and FINALLY, IT HAPPEND.

HOW DID IT START?
I applied for the Hubert H. Humphrey fellowship 2020-2021 in May 2019. Then I contacted the American Embassy in my country that I have applied for this marvelous fellowship. In June I submitted my application. On September 9th, 2019 I went for an interview with the Hubert H. Humphrey fellowship committee at the Suriname American Embassy. Eight days later, I got a more exciting news; ‘Congratulations! Your application for a Humphrey Fellowship has been selected for submission to the Humphrey Program Review Committee in Washington DC for further review.’ Next step was my TOEFL test- my score is 73. I needed to send some academic papers and diploma’s and wait patiently till Washington D.C. said ‘YES, Ms. Arnhem, you have been selected!’ Which they did.
ABOUT THE HUBERT H. HUMPHREY PROGRAM
The Humphrey Exchange Program is a Fulbright exchange activity. Its primary funding is provided by the U.S. Congress through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. The Institute of International Education (IIE) assists the U.S. Department of State in administering the Humphrey Fellowship Program. This program brings young and mid-career professionals from designated countries to the United States for a year of non-degree graduate- level study, leadership development, and professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts.
The Humphrey Fellowship Program is for experienced professionals interested in strengthening their leadership skills through a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the U.S. and Fellows’ home countries. As a non-degree program, the Fellowship offers valuable opportunities for professional development through selected university courses, attending conferences, networking, and practical work experiences. During the year, Fellows pursue both their individual program goals and work closely with their Humphrey colleagues in workshops and seminars. Unlike a typical graduate school experience, the Program encourages Fellows to travel away from their host campus to learn more about American culture and to network with their American peers. If you are interested in broadening your perspectives and becoming a global leader, the Humphrey Fellowship is for you.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATION
The most exciting is the professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts. This applies during the professional affiliation (internship) with an American news media or media outlet. A Professional Affiliation is a 6 weeks full-time, mutually beneficial placement at an organization related to the Humphrey Fellow’s professional field. Each Humphrey Fellow conducts at least one Professional Affiliation during his or her Fellowship. A Professional Affiliation allows the Humphrey Fellow an opportunity to learn how U.S.-based organizations operate, as well as to contribute his or her experience and knowledge to the organization. Fellows typically complete a project during an affiliation: this might be in the form of preparing research or reports, conducting an evaluation, or contributing to a specific initiative or event.
