I’m Xaviera L. Arnhem

Professional Summary

I value; freedom, integrity, honesty, ownership & involvement

My objective is with freedom as a motive, independently and in a unique way, compiling socially relevant reports on subjects that are often not accessible to the public.

Xaviera was the first Surinamese woman to get a Bachelors in Video Journalism from AHKCO, while working at the national television station STVS. She started at STVS just 20 years old. Ten years was spent at STVS where she produced and reported on numerous national events gaining valuable insights into the inner workings of the media. Primarily focusing on video journalism she had the opportunity to travel to most of the country including long trips to the interior to help document happenings with the natives there.

Her interests are broadened; she added value to her profession by doing different studies such as linguistics, scriptwriting, documentary making, photography, fashion/lifestyle, Art & Culture. In 2019 she and a friend of hers co-anchored a two weekly Arts & Lifestyle radio program. Since 2016 one of her goals was to give ladies and gents in beauty pageants the tools for media engagement, especially when doing interviews on the traditional media platforms.

She is a past president of her local Junior Chamber International, a former National Officer of JCI Suriname and a former board member of the Journalism Union. The U.S. Embassy in Suriname selected her for a Journalism Exchange in South Dakota in 2012 and in 2019 for the IVLP-Edward R. Murrow Program where she spent her time in the USA gaining new knowledge. In 2020-2021 she was invited back through the Hubert. H. Humphrey fellowship program at Arizona State University. There she collaborated with renowned Journalists around the world and was able to utilize the time to further her expertise. Currently Xaviera lives in Suriname where she continues to nourish those relationships built through past opportunities to stay relevant and informed.
