I’m Xaviera L. Arnhem

IOM Suriname

The Republic of Suriname became a Member State of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on the 14th of June, 2013. IOM has established an office in Paramaribo in April 2023 and signed in July 2023 a Privileges and Immunities (P&I) agreement with the Government. Suriname’s history has been marked by diverse immigration waves, primarily originating from neighboring nations and former colonies such as Indonesia, India, China, and the Netherlands. These influxes have significantly shaped the nation’s cultural mosaic and demographic composition.

My work consisted of executing the communication strategy and communication plan by building an understanding and strong relationship with and between IOM, beneficiaries, the government, receiving communities, and other government and non-government stakeholders. I produced videos, photos, flyers, press releases and repurposed the SDG & GCM bookmarker in Dutch for local and national content. What is Global Compact for Migration?

Some of my work is displayed on the UN Suriname website. This is an article on the GCM workshop for the Suriname government and institutions.

On the IOM Caribbean Twitter account I produced an after movie during UN DAY in Suriname. UN Suriname held a Walkathon were all UN Offices located in Suriname and even UN Guyana participated in.
